Research hypothesis of the project is to build full ceramic micro Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (?-SOFCs)
based on both porous stainless steel (MS-?-SOFCs) and silicon (Si-?-SOFCs) supports. These cells
will operate at temperatures < 400°C with power density exceeding 100 mW cm-2. In order to obtain
this ambitious goal, the research will focus on studying nanoporous ceramic and ceramic-metallic
electrodes for oxygen reduction and hydrogen oxidation at low temperatures (< 500°C).
The project is divided into two main tracks: development and fabrication of Metal Supported cells via
ceramic processing and Si-supported cells by microelectronic methods. In order to achieve high
performance cells, an important contribution towards the development of efficient low temperature
electrodes will be made. Both the hydrogen (based on doped ceria) and the oxygen (based on active
perovskites) electrodes will be developed. Processing and compositional analyses will be researched.
