Research

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences carries out research in five main areas connected to sustainable development of science and technologies. Faculty‘s scientists and researchers take part in different national and international projects, are actively participating in science and research promotion and transfer.

Interdisciplinary research projects in the Faculty have been carried out in the framework of COST, EU H2020, NATO, EUREKA, CONRAM, CliniMARK and other programmes.

Research achievements and impact

Applying mathematics and physics in different fields, such as biomedicine, big data, finance, materials, micro and nanotechnologies, as well as interdisciplinary research related to IT, mechanical engineering, chemistry, material engineering, conducted both in Lithuania and all over the world, promotes progress, expands high technologies industry.

Applied research conducted at the Faculty, interdisciplinary national and international projects, new methods, models and technologies created by its scientists and researchers, and the provided services meet the needs of business, industry and the State.

The Faculty is a reliable partner for Lithuanian and international business and industry companies, the solutions created by its scientists and researchers solve real-world issues for various areas of industry. The laboratories of the Faculty and its research groups are open for young researchers who can join working on world-class research projects.

The Faculty’s scientists and researchers are carrying out interdisciplinary research on the topics that are of utmost importance for today’s world. The outcomes of scientific research conducted at the Faculty is published in journals listed in Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) journal list boasting high impact factor, and presented at international scientific conferences. The Faculty’s scientists are on editorial boards of various scientific publications.

Faculty organises national and international conferences and other scientific events, which promote cooperation between institutions and scientists. During the events, achievements and experience are shared, thus promoting the development and progress of science.

Department of Physics together with HITACHI corporation and Tokyo Institute of Technology holds annual nuclear engineering seminars, where relevant nuclear energetics, safety and technology related issues in Lithuania, Japan and all over the world are introduced and discussed.

In 2017, the first and unique in Lithuania and Baltic States Workshop on Mathematical Methods for Business and Industry took place. During the Workshop scientists solve real-world business and industry problems by using mathematical methods. The event promotes cooperation between science institutions and business companies and solutions provided by mathematicians are integrated into the real-world business cases. It is planned that the Workshop will become an annual event.
